Overall

A phone that seems to provide as much as it promises, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is set to create waves when it comes out in December 2008.

The phone is said to feature innovative “Media Bar” and “Contacts Bar” features that are said to add a human touch to the music experience.

Basically designed as a music phone, the 5800 XpressMusic is the first touchscreen phone of the genre for Nokia.

The “Media Bar” is in fact a handy drop down menu that gives direct access to music and entertainment, such as favourite tracks, videos and phoos. It also offers a direct link to the web and to online sharing, allowing pictures and videos to be uploaded to Flickr and Facebook with a click.

The other innovation, the “Contacts Bar”, lets users highlight four favorite contacts on their home-screen and, with a single touch, display a digital history of recent text messages, emails, phone logs, photos and blog updates, very much like an RSS feed of life and contacts. As such, the user interface becomes a human interface.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic supports 60 languages, and as such positions itself to be accessible to people the world over, giving them the ability to enjoy music the way they want to.

On the music front, designed mainly as a music phone, this model is to support “Comes With Music”, Nokia’s groundbreaking service which offers one year of unlimited access to the entire Nokia Music Store catalogue (will be available as from early 2009).

The phone also packs a great music experience, providing more memory, really loud and powerful speakers and easy synchronization.

Music essentials are also featured, such as a graphic equalizer, 8GB memory for up to 6000 tracks and support for all main digital music formats, and a 3.5mm jack. Built-in surround sound stereo speakers offer the industry’s most powerful sound.

The newly updated Nokia Music PC software allows for easy drag-and-drop transfer of songs and management of any music collection.

Visual-wise, the 3.2″ widescreen display is said to offer the best resolution on the market, bringing photos, video clips and web content to life in vibrant color and true clarity. 16 by 9 aspect ratio and 30 frames-per-second recording make this phone ideal for VGA quality video recording and playback.

The browser also supports Flash content, which allows individuals to surf the entire web, not just pieces of it.

There are also a variety of input methods including a virtual alphanumeric keypad, a virtual computer-style QWERTY keyboard, a pen stylus ? and for true music enthusiasts, a plectrum.

Pros

-All-in-one music center
-Powerful sound

Cons

-Still needs a bit more improvement to stand alone in the touchscreen only world.
-Better to use the stylus, resistive to touch only

Special mention

The music base is definitely covered.

Conclusion

Definitely worth it, especially for the music lover. The phone sure delivers.
